Prepare for adventure—together! This hands-on class is designed for parents and children to learn and practice real wilderness survival skills as a team. Guided by an experienced outdoor educator, you’ll explore the basic necessities of staying safe and found in the outdoors.

We’ll start with an introduction to the core priorities of survival. Then, families will learn to navigate like pros by practicing how to use a compass.

From there, work side-by-side to build sturdy lean-to shelters using downed logs, sticks, and natural debris—just as you would in a real woodland scenario. Then, discover the ancient art of friction fire as we learn about and practice using a fire bow.

After all that hard work, relax and celebrate your new skills with a well-earned treat: s’mores roasted at the historic fireplace behind the Nature Center.

Perfect for families with children ages 6 and up. Come curious and leave confident!

What to bring: Weather-appropriate clothes you don’t mind getting dirty, closed-toe shoes, and a water bottle.
